Chandrabadani Temple and History

Many years ago, King Daksha performed a Yagya at Kankhal (now in Haridwar). Daksha’s daughter Maa Sati desired Lord Shankar to go to the Yagya, lord Shiva advised her not to go there but Maa Sati did not understand lord Shiva words and went there. None other than the mother of Goddess Sati welcomed Sati there, the Yagya mandapa had the place of all the gods except Lord Shankar when Goddess Sati asked her father Daksha why is here no place for Lord Shankar, King Daksha heard derogatory words about Lord Shiva and Angry goddess Sati jumped into Yagya Kund.  When Lord Shiva received information about this, he went to Daksha’s Yagyashala and cut the head of King Daksha. Lord shiva picked the body of Maa Sati and walked for the Himalayas from sky route. Lord Shiva became sad and angry with Sati’s disconnection, which caused the earth to tremble. In anger, Shiva did not do anything untoward therefore Lord Vishnu dislodged the organs of Sati from his chakra. Where the parts of Sati fell Shaktipeeth was established and Sati’s torso (body) was found on the Chandrakut mountain, hence the name here is Chandrabadni.
