Dhari Devi is one of the famous temples of Uttarakhand. It is located in Rudraprayag district near Srinagar in Uttarakhand. Dhari Devi temple is one of the main Siddha Peethas of goddess Kali Mata. Dhari Devi is considered as the guardian and foster goddess of Uttarakhand. The upper half of the statue of Dhari Devi came here after flowing in the Alaknanda River since then the Dhari Devi statue is on it and worshiped here in the form of Goddess Maa “Dhari” and the lower half of the statue is located in Kalimath, where Mata Kali is worshiped.

According to the priests of Maa Dhari Devi temple, Many years ago, a time when the water flow in the river was very fast due to heavy rains. A very loud sound of a woman was heard near Dhari village, which scared the people of the village, People were understanding no untoward incident with any woman. When the people of the village looked near the place, the people of the village saw a statue floating in the water then villagers took out the idol from the water and after removing the idol, in a few moments the goddess’s voice ordered them to install the idol at the same place, since then the people of Dhari village named this place as Dhari Devi.

Goddess Maa Dhari Devi changes her shape three times in a day in this temple. Goddess Mata takes the shape of a girl in the morning, a girl in the afternoon and an old lady in the evening. According to Hindu mythology, the Dhari Mata protects the Chardham of Uttarakhand. Pandey brahmin of Dhari village is the priest of maa Dhari Devi temple. A small temple was situated on the rock surrounding the statue of the ancient goddess. The temple of Goddess Dhari Devi was submerged by the lake of 330 MW Srinagar Hydroelectric Project on the Alaknanda River. Every day a huge number of people visit Dhari Devi temple and especially the most newly married couples arrive to seek the blessings of Maa Dhari Devi for their happy life.

How to Reach Dhari Devi Temple and History

The temple of Goddess Dhari Devi is located 136 kilometers from Jolly Grant Airport and 119 kilometers from Rishikesh Railway Station. Dhari Devi Temple is located in Kaliyasaur between Srinagar and Rudraprayag. Between Srinagar-Dhari Devi and Dhari Devi-Rudraprayag is 16 km and 20 km respectively. One can easily reach here by bus or taxi from Srinagar and Rudraprayag.

By Road:  If you want to visit Dhari Devi temple, You can easily reach Dhari Devi Temple,  It is located 368 km from Delhi and 122 km from Rishikesh (Uttarakhand).

By AirPlane: The nearest International airport to Dhari Devi is Jolly Grant Airport Dehradun, which is 136 km away from Dhari Devi.

By Train: The nearest railway station is at Rishikesh, it is 122 km from Dhari Devi. From here you can take a bus or taxi to reach Dhari Devi.
