Kalimath Temple is one of the famous Siddipith of India and located in 10 km northeast of Guptkashi in Mandakini valley in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. This temple is located at an altitude of 1463 meters above sea level and Kalimath Temple is one of the major tourist destinations in Rudraprayag district and Kalimath temple is dedicated to “Maa Kali”  and thousands of devotees from different parts of the India visit this temple on the auspicious occasion of Navratri.

According to Hindu mythology, many years ago on this place mother Kali appeared, because of on that time Goddesses troubled by two demons named Shumbha-Nishumbha and goddesses prayed to Maa Bhagwati then Maa Kali appeared and hearing about the terror of the Shumbha-Nishumbha, the Maa kali body turned black with anger and she took a ferocious form and killed both the demons in the war.

There are two main places here, Kalishila and Kalimath.  Maa Kali was incarnated from Kalishila and Maa Kali disappeared from Kalimath. Kalishila is situated approx 8 km uphill from Kalimath. Where Kalimath is situated on the banks of the Saraswati River. There is a Kunda in the Kalimath temple, which is covered with Sriyantra and this Kunda is opened on Ashtami in Shardiya Navratras. It is believed that when Mahakali did not calm down, Lord Shiva lay under the feet of the Maa Mahakali when Mahakali’s feet lie in the lord Shiva’s chest, she became calm and disappeared in this Kunda and It is believed that Mahakali is absorbed in this Kunda. Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, Mahasaraswati, Gauri Temple and Bhairav Temple are in Kalimath and there is a flame which is constantly burning.

How to Reach Kalimath Temple and History

The temple of Goddess Kalimath Temple is located 205 kilometers from Jolly Grant Airport and 190 kilometers from Rishikesh Railway Station, between Rudraprayag-Kalimath distance, is 50 km respectively. you can easily reach here by bus or taxi from Rudraprayag.

By Road:  If you want to visit Kalimath Temple, You can easily reach here,  It is located 434 km from Delhi and 190 km from Rishikesh (Uttarakhand).

By AirPlane: The nearest International airport is Jolly Grant Airport Dehradun, which is 205 km away from Kalimath.

By Train: The nearest railway station is at Rishikesh, it is 190 km from Kalimath. From here you can take a bus or taxi to reach Kalimath.
