Madmaheshwar Temple is one of the famous Lord Shiva temples and also one of the Panch Kedar. Madhyamaheshwar is considered as the Fourth place in Panchkedar. In Madhyameshwar, the navel of Lord Shiva is worshiped. Madhyameshwar is located at an elevation of 3289 meters above sea level in Rudraprayag district of Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. 3-4 km at the height from Madhyameshwar temple comes a Bugyal where is a small temple called old Madhyameshwar. From there, you can see a grand view of the Chaukhamba mountain of the Himalayas also views of Mandakini Mountains, Kedarnath Himalaya Range. Along with devotion, Madmaheshwar trek is also considered to be very important for trekking. Like Lord Shiva and Kedars, the doors of the Madhyameshwar temple are also opened for six months and six months of winter are worshiped in the Ukhimath.

Madmaheshwar Temple and History

The architecture of Madmaheshwar temple is built by the Pandavas. Madmaheshwar temple has a navel-shaped Shivling made of black stone, which is situated in the holy place of the temple. There are two other small temples, one of which is of Lord Shiva’s wife Parvati and the other is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Parvati as a form of Ardhanarishwar. As we know that various organs of Lord Shiva are worshiped in Panch Kedars. navel of Lord Shiva was found in Madmaheshwar, since then, Lord Shiva’s navel is worshiped in this temple.

How to Reach Madmaheshwar Temple and History

To visit Madamaheshwar, you must reach Ukhimath first. From Ukhimath you will get a taxi to ransi and ransi is the last village connected by motorway. From here, there is approx 23 km walk to Madamaheshwar. There are many small villages like Gondhar, Mienkhamba Chatti are found on the route, where is proper arrangement for living and eating. The entire path is filled with natural beauties and mule porter is also available from these villages to Madhyameshwar.

By Road – Madamaheshwar Temple is situated at a distance of only 442 kilometers from Delhi ( the capital of the country) and only 241 kilometers from Dehradun, (capital of Uttarakhand).

By Train – If you want to reach Madamaheshwar via train then you can come from Delhi to Haridwar or Rishikesh by train. It is the nearest railway station to Madamaheshwar but after Rishikesh, you have to go to Madamaheshwar by local taxi or bus.

By airplane- If you want to reach Madamaheshwar by Airplane, then you can take a flight from any city in the country to the International Airport Jolly Grant and after that, you have to take a bus and taxi.
