Rudranath Temple is one of the famous Lord Shiva temples and also one of the Panch Kedar and This temple is in fourth place in the order of Panch Kedar. Rudranath Temple is located in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India. Rudranath temple is located at an altitude of 3,600 meters (11,800 ft) above sea level. In this temple, Lord Shiva face is worshiped, while the entire body is worshiped in Pashupatinath of Kathmandu, capital of Nepal. In this temple, Lord Shiva is worshiped as Neelkanth Mahadev. Rudranath Temple was built by the Pandavas.

According to Hindu mythological stories, Pandavas came to the Himalayas after the war of Mahabharata and asked Lord Shiva to forgive them for their sins, because they were guilty of killing the Kauravas in the Mahabharata war, but Lord Shiva did not want to meet them so they were transformed into a Nandi bull and hid somewhere in the Garhwal region and after that, Lord Shiva’s body was divided into different parts which are known as Panch Kedar and Rudranath Temple is built where the head of Lord Shiva was found. The trek to Rudranath is very difficult but it is an adventure and pleasureful trek. This route is not very easy so if you are planning to visit Rudranath then you should take the help of a local guide. This place is religious and peaceful for the devotees.

How to Reach Rudranath Temple and History

If you want to visit Rudranath temple from any place of India, you have to reach Rishikesh or Haridwar first. Haridwar is connected by a large railway line from Delhi (The capital city of India). There is also an airport at Jolly Grant near Rishikesh and Dehradun where there are direct flights from all the major cities of India. From Haridwar or Rishikesh you have to go to Gopeshwar Chamoli district which is located at a distance of about 212 km from Rishikesh. A bus or taxi is easily available to reach Gopeshwar from Rishikesh. After reaching Gopeshwar, you can start your journey the next day. A road is available to Sagar village, which is situated at a distance of 5 km from Gopeshwar and after reaching Sagar village you should travel 22 kilometers for Rudranath temple and Haridwar is the nearest railway station to visit Rudranath.
